This year, we had a few more things in the front room, and had the kids actually enter the house to get their treats. A setup shot. While I was moving the couch out, and the kitchen table in, it was a bit crowded so these two had to share a seat Hmm... How do you show one room? Well, lets try starting the door and working our way around. The lovely Mistress Evil manages to be in two places at once as we enter the door to the left. We went a bit more elaborate inside this year. I had put up the bookshelves since the last Halloween, so I tried covering them with black "bird netting", and then spanish moss over that. It didn't quite cover as well as I'd have liked but the effect wasn't quite so bad.
While the treat bags lasted, they were in this great coffin I got off of Ebay last year. You know, it took me almost 2 weeks to realize what bothered me about the coffin... it opens up on the wrong side! Ah well, details. The treat bags each had 3 or 4 pieces of candy, a few toys, and a glow bracelet. The glow bracelets were a big hit. Judging by the number of bags scattered around the neighborhood the next day, the bags were a bit less of a hit. <sigh> Kids would come to the door, and we'd tell them to come in and pick their color from the glowing bags. After the bags ran out (wow, 100 so fast?) we just scattered candy in the bottom of the coffin and either doled it out by the small handful, or had the kids grab their own. Did I mention the thunder and lightning? We set up a Storm Box from www.screaminthedark.net behind the black plastic curtain, and had that running all night long. It was great! We had it hooked up to both a 500W photo bulb and to a small strobe (Did I just void my warrantee Tom?), and the combination of the lights looked great. You know, it's a sad thing when you start running out of places to hold your swords.
And wow, just that fast, we're back where we started at the front door. We also were planning a skeletal dinner party in the middle of the floor, but due to time constraints, our skinny friends ended up just coming over for drinks. The chandelier is the skandalabra from ACC, and it looks great! 9 different flicker bulbs, and who knows how many Thriftys, Pete Petes, and Tiny Tims. Of course, after spending all that money, we have to find a place to use it year round to justify the expense. :>
